Objectives:

The instructional objective of the College of Business is to provide a high quality professional education in business. Such an education should provide the student with:

  • An appreciation of the evolution of the profession and an awareness of the ethical, global, technological, economic, political and social forces shaping its future;
  • an understanding of the major functional areas of business with the opportunity for specialization for a career in business;
  • an ability to recognize and appreciate the effect of diversity in the work place;
  • an opportunity for advanced study.
  • A comprehensive education in business includes a broad foundation in the liberal arts, courses in the major functional areas of business activity, proficiency in analytical methods, and the ability to identify problems and arrive at logical solutions. In addition, a professional education is designed to inspire students to assume business and community leadership.

    Student Learning Outcomes

    The following outcomes provide a guide to assuring that students achieve key knowledge and skills in our world-class programs.

    It is expected that students with an undergraduate degree will have the following characteristics:

  • Students should demonstrate an ability to conduct methodological, secondary research into business issues, which may relate to general business or to a specific business function, which requires familiarity with a range of data, research sources, and appropriate methodologies.
  • Students will demonstrate foundational knowledge in accounting, economics, finance, management, and marketing in application of concepts and theories. 
  • Students will create and effectively deliver oral presentations
  • Student will demonstrate effective skills in written and oral communications using appropriate technologies.
  • Students will demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in teams of diverse composition.
  • Student should demonstrate an ability to integrate the concepts of the core areas of business.
  • Students should demonstrate proficiency in the use of general productivity software in business applications with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to apply theories and methods to the solution of common types of problems related to their academic field of study.
  • Students should demonstrate awareness of the importance of the ethical requirements of business activities.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of global perspectives of business.
